Members say YES. Board says NO.
Despite 63.2% of voters in favor of some allowance of student voting, the Board chose to ignore the vote results favoring change and to instead stay the course (wherever that course is leading). I am extremely disappointed in this decision, and my faith in the Board’s ability to enable positive change has again fallen a notch.
What was the point of conducting the survey if you’re going to ignore the results?
The membership deserves to know the full reasoning behind this decision and student members need full reasoning as to why they are still not considered “real” members. It’s only fair that we get the whole story. After all, you asked us our thoughts via the vote.
But to play Devil’s Advocate… I guess it doesn’t matter if student members get to vote or not, because apparently any member’s vote really doesn’t have any weight in the eyes of the Board.

I’m disturbed by the fact that the Board seems to have weighed negative comments more heavily than positive votes. I guess the lesson here is, always leave a comment explaining why you voted the way you did — because it’s not a one-person, one-vote model.
What would happen if, say, a person serving as Board VP decided to go for a masters’ degree? Would that person then be unqualified to serve as president? Would it be necessary to pay the full member amount, despite qualifying for the student rate? On the surface, it certainly looks as if the issue is about granting people fewer rights because they’re paying less. Because as it stands now, a student can have full voting rights by paying more money.
