Language is an amazing and beautiful yet dangerous thing, especially when crossing its barriers. Just as Coca-Cola learned about it’s Mandarin transliteration, I too recently discovered an interesting twist to my long-standing personal brand ‘techcommdood’. One of my LinkedIn connections wrote me with the following:
I can see the dude/dood gimmick in your blog’s name, but each time I see it, for one microsecond only, my native language forces me to read it as the Dutch word “dood”. It’s meaning: “death” or “dead”.
Well, the cat’s out of the bag, folks. I am the death of tech comm!
You’ve been warned.

Oh dear. Having read that comment, my buried Dutch-language synapses have reactivated and now I see it, too.
It was cool to see you using my friend Joseph’s photo. The wider this Internet thing gets, the more widespread become our connections. I’ve known Joseph for over 30 years. I met Sarah back in 2008, and I met Bill for the first time in May.
With all this history, I’m proud to say that You sir, are the death of techcomm. I like it.
Tony, very cool! I use the Zemanta plugin for Wordpress. It pulls in free-use photos from the web, as well as related articles and blogs as I author, all based on the context of my content. I then can pick and choose which to add to my blog and Zemanta places them accordingly. A smart little app! And very cool that it picked up your friend’s photo!
Zemanta? That will definitely go on the list of plugins to explore while I rework my site design. Thanks for the tip off!
