What’s with the newspaper links on Twitter?

By now you’ve seen a bunch of newspaper links (”_____ Daily”) links from me on Twitter. Perhaps you’ve read them. Perhaps you’ve retweeted them (thank you!). Allow me to explain what you’re seeing.

The papers are generated automatically using paper.li, a Twitter aggregator that takes a daily compilation of hash tags (or however you configure it) and presents them in a newspaper format. Any links are translated into linked stories with teasers. The paper also runs a loop of non-linked tagged tweets.

What I really like about the paper is that if I miss anything in my timeline (easy when you’re following over 700 people) I can catch it in the paper the next day! You also find new and interesting people to follow!

Anyone can create a paper, and anyone can promote a paper. Give it a try!

Measuring your Online Influence: Metrics

August 9, 2010 Social Media

Image via Wikipedia

As I indicated in my last post, I wanted to learn a bit more about the various metrics used in measuring blogger influence. I still say the best means of measurement are the comments, emails, Tweets, and IMs you get from people thanking you for sharing information or helping them answer a question [...]

Honored to be considered one of 25 techcomm MIBs

July 29, 2010 Social Media

I’d like to take a moment to thank mindtouch and Mark Fidelman for even considering me in the evaluation and ranking of influential technical communication bloggers. I am honored with the distinction of being placed in the top 25.
I’ll be following up at a point when I have a bit more time with a related [...]

Should STC Summit adopt social media event tools?

July 13, 2010 Conferences

I’d posed this question in a few circles to mixed feedback. While some agree it is more than time for STC to step up and employ more interactive/informative technologies, others seem averted to the idea, in some cases seeing it as an attack on those who aren’t riding the tech/social media trend.
The idea is simple: [...]

Chrome/WebHelp issue update with thoughts from a HAT vendor

June 10, 2010 Information Delivery

Image via Wikipedia

As reported yesterday, an update to Google Chrome has crippled most browser-based Help formats as well as JavaDoc. Google has been active in developing a solution, as evident in reported incidents 46167 and 39767. While there is a current means around this, it involves bypassing file action restrictions via the command line, which [...]

RoboHelp

Using Conditional Text in Adobe Technical Communication Suite 2

June 3, 2010 Content Development

Image via Wikipedia

If you’ve been following me on Twitter, you’ve likely seen my frustration in trying to get conditional text to work in a linked file scenario with FrameMaker 9 and RoboHelp 8. I’m writing this post to help others who may be struggling with this issue, and to alert Adobe to a need for [...]

Putting names to faces at Tweetups

March 26, 2010 Conferences

By now I’m sure most if not all people who will read this blog post are on Twitter, and many have likely attended a local Tweetup or planned to meet some of their friends and followers at a conference or trade show. The awkward part is that many times you have no idea what their [...]

Silly error of the week

February 26, 2010 Humor

I ran into this error just now and laughed out loud. I’ll let you study it and then learn how I ran into it.

Are you ready for this? I pressed the left cursor button on my keyboard when at the insertion point of a table.
Rather than going up to the previous line like other authoring [...]

What’s your opinion of Google Buzz?

February 11, 2010 QOTD

One thing’s for certain, there’s a lot of buzz about Buzz right now. I find it amusing that most of it is on Twitter. There are many strong opinions on both sides of the Buzz… Some love it and are telling people to hold tight, and others very obviously hate it for a variety of [...]
